The Salesian College in Zaragoza, Spain, has adopted an innovative solution for training its students, aged from 10 years up, to use desktop software: MEDIAplus eLearning from ENI.
The Salesian College in Zaragoza is a faith school funded by regional government. For over 50 years, it has educated students of all ages, from primary school to careers-based training for adults. "We endeavour to keep up with the latest technologies, so that we can offer our students innovative training solutions that help them learn and adapt to the world of work," explains Maria Eugenia Martin, head of teaching.
It is in this context that the school has chosen to use the MEDIAplus eLearning solution from ENI to teach its students to use desktop applications (Microsoft Word, Excel...).
Previously, the school used traditional means: manuals and exercises invented by individual teachers. A change of approach was called for to lighten the load on teaching staff and provide effective preparation for Microsoft Office certifications.
The MEDIAplus eLearning solution was chosen because it more than meets these requirements and can integrate into the existing IT platform.
Training takes place in a dedicated IT lab where students aged from 10 to 17 come for online computer training, accompanied by the teacher in charge of the desktop application programme. This activity is an optional extracurricular activity proposed by the school. Small groups of no more than 15 students learn together, so that each individual's progress can be monitored. "Our students' motivation needs boosting regularly by the teacher, whose involvement is crucial," remarks Mrs Martin.
"We are very satisfied with the MEDIAplus eLearning solution, because it allows us to adapt training programmes to the needs of each student and follow their progress individually. It really makes a difference," she concludes.
