Select the paragraphs (including the paragraph marks icon ), or click in the relevant paragraph.
From the Home tab, go to the Paragraph group and open the list on the tool button.
You can see a preview of each colour as it would be applied to the paragraph as you rest the pointer over each colour.
To apply one of the colours in the list, click the background colour to apply to the selected paragraph. The colours in the Theme Colors box are linked to the theme applied to the document (cf. Styles and Styles set chapter). If you choose one of the Theme Color, the paragraph’s background colour will change if you apply a new theme to the document.
To apply a colour that is not in the list, click More Colors. Then select the colour you want from either the Standard or Custom tabs. Then click OK.
In addition to the background colour, the dialogue box will allow you to apply shading to paragraphs.
