Preventing a break between lines or paragraphs

Page or column breaks are often undesirable within a paragraph, or between two paragraphs.

If you want to prevent page or column breaks occurring within a paragraph, click in that paragraph. If you want to prevent the breaks occurring between two paragraphs, click in the first paragraph. If you want to prevent the breaks occurring between several paragraphs, select all the relevant paragraphs except the last.

From the Home tab, go to the Paragraph group and click the images/13i10.png button.

You can also double-click one of the indent markers in the ruler.

Click the Line and Page Breaks tab.

To prevent a page or column break occurring within a paragraph, select Keep lines together. To prevent a page or column break occurring between paragraphs, select Keep with next.

Keep Widow/Orphan control checked to prevent the last line of a paragraph appearing at the top of a page (widowed) or the first line of a paragraph appearing alone at the bottom of a page (orphaned).

Click OK.
