Changing the default appearance of characters

You can change the default font, style, attributes, character spacing etc.

Open the relevant document or template.

From the Home tab, go to the Font group and click the images/13i10.png button.

Define the new appearance of characters using the options in the Font dialogue box.

Click the Set As Default button.

Word displays the choice you have made, and reminds you that, if you go ahead, this document or all documents based on this template (here Normal.dotm) will be modified.

Click either This document only or All documents based on the xxx template, then click OK.

All characters in the document currently using the previous default will take on the new default appearance; others which are already formatted differently will retain their previous characteristics.

You can also change the standard appearance of characters using the options in the Set Default tab in the Manages Styles dialogue box (images/13i51.png button in the Styles pane).
