Applying a shadow to characters

Applying a preset shadow

Word has several preset shadows.

Select the relevant text.

In the Home tab, click the Text Effects and Typography tool images/13iac16.png then click Shadow.

Click one of the options from Inner, Outer and Perspective.

Applying a custom shadow

If none of the predefined shadows proposed by Word are suitable, you can create your own shadow.

Select the relevant text.

In the Home tab, click the Text Effects and Typography tool images/13iac16.png, point to Shadow, then click Shadow Options.

You can also click the Text Effects button in the Font dialogue box (Home tab, Font group, images/13i10.png button), click the images/13i50.png icon then choose Shadow.

Make sure the Shadow category is selected.

The Format Text Effects pane appears to the right of the window. You can see the Shadow options.

If you want to create the custom shadow from a preset shadow, select it in the Presets list.

The options that follow display the predefined shadow setting that you have just selected. You can change these options.

Select the shadow colour from the Color list.

To change the shadow transparency, drag the Transparency cursor until you get the setting you want.

To change the shadow size, drag the Size cursor to the setting you want. 100% corresponds to the size of the selected characters.

To change the shadow blur, drag the Blur cursor.

To change the shadow angle, drag the Angle cursor.

To change the distance of the shadow from the characters, drag the Distance cursor.
