Managing styles

Modifying a style

First method

The first method can only be used to modify character or paragraph styles.

If the modifications only relate to the active document, make the changes within the document. Conversely, if you want the modifications to carry over into any new document created from a template, make the changes in the relevant template.

Make the formatting changes on the text that already uses the style you wish to modify (character or paragraph styles only).

If the style has been added to the Styles gallery, right-click the name of the relevant style.

To enlarge the gallery to see more styles, click the More images/13iac33.png button from the lower part of the styles scroll bar.
If no style is displayed in the Styles gallery, display the Styles pane (Home tab - Styles group - images/13i10.png button), then right-click the name of the relevant style.

Click Update "style name" to Match Selection.

The changes made to the style are carried over to all the characters or paragraphs to which the style has previously been applied.

Second method

Open the document or template containing the style to be modified.

To modify a character or paragraph style, go to either the Styles gallery or the Styles pane, right-click the name of the style, then click Modify.

To modify a table style, click in the table to activate the Table Tools tool, then click the Design tab. Right-click the table style to modify from the Table Styles group, then click Modify Table Style.

To display more table styles, click the More images/13iac33.png button in the lower part of the table styles ...
