Selecting text

To select:

a word: double-click the word.

a line: position the pointer to the left end of the line (the mouse pointer changes to images/IC-027.png) and click.
a paragraph: point to the left of the paragraph (the mouse pointer changes to images/IC-027.png) and double-click. Or triple-click a word in the paragraph.

a sentence: hold down the [Ctrl] key and click on a word in the sentence.

the whole document: position the pointer to the left edge of the text and triple-click or hold down the [Ctrl] key and click once to the left of the text (or use [Ctrl] A).

To select a group or several groups of characters:

"Drag and drop": click in front of the first character to be selected and, without releasing the mouse button, move over all the characters required. When the selection is correct, release the mouse button.

[Shift] click: click in front of the first character to be selected, point after the last, hold down the [Shift] key and click.

Several groups of characters: select the first block, hold down the [Ctrl] key and select the other text blocks with the mouse.

Selections are highlighted against a grey background. When you have made a selection, a mini toolbar with basic formatting tools appears temporarily, so that you can format the text without going to the Home tab.

If you wish to select text vertically, hold down [Alt] and drag over your selection.

To select the whole document, you can also click Select All from the list on the Select button on the Home tab (Editing group).
