Saving a text box

You can create and save a custom text box to reuse it.

Select the text box you want to save.

In the Insert tab, go to the Text group, click the Text Box button, then Save Selection to Text Box Gallery.

As a text box is a building block, the Create New Building Block dialogue box appears.

Enter a name in the Name field.

Make sure that Text Boxes is selected in the Gallery list.

Open the Category list and select one of the options, or click Create New Category. In this case, enter a name and click OK.

The text boxes in the Text Box button (Insert tab - Text group) are grouped by category.

You can enter a description of the text box in the Description box.

If you want to save your text box to a template that is not based on the Normal template, enter a name in the Save in list; the text box will only be available for documents based on that template.

Open the Options list and choose one of the following options:

Insert content only/Insert content in its own paragraph: the text box is anchored to the active paragraph in the active page.

Insert content in its own page: the text box is inserted on a new page. Word creates a page break before and after the text box.


Click OK to confirm.

The text box is now available in the Text Box button list (Insert tab) and can be inserted into any document (cf. Drawn objects - Creating a text box).
